Our Officers & Advisory Board

President

Garry Black

Likes to say he's a single fisherman with a really cool van. He will tell you his first year as a beekeeper didn't count because it all seemed to go wrong.

Vice President

Aaron Carr

Aaron Carr is a retired school principal living in the Edgemont–Hot Springs area of the southern Black Hills. After a career dedicated to education, leadership, and building strong learning communities, Aaron has recently discovered a new passion—beekeeping.

As a beginning beekeeper, Aaron approaches the craft with curiosity, humility, and a deep appreciation for the learning process. He values the connection between people, nature, and lifelong learning, and sees beekeeping as a natural extension of the work he has always loved—growing, observing, and supporting systems that thrive through care and collaboration.

Through the Black Hills Area Bee Club, Aaron has found a welcoming community of knowledgeable and generous individuals who are passionate about honeybees and committed to supporting one another. He is grateful to be learning alongside experienced beekeepers and is excited to continue developing his skills while contributing to the club’s mission of education, stewardship, and community connection.
